I made comparison between SDR1000 with a traditonal good receiver, using a headphones Test criteria I listen received signal in: Different bands, mainly 40 and 80
Different mode, SSB, CW, RTTY, BPSK Different time In contest and outside contest I have been doing the test for 20 hours not continuesly
Configurations Antennas RX - SDR 1000 audio Delta44, PC Pentium Dual Core 1Gb ram (dell 520)
- IC 765 - Roofing filter della INRAD - Filtro 2,1 khz SSB INRAD (455khz) - Filtro 400Hz CW INRAD (9010,5 khz)
Test tools - A good relay to switch headphone and antenna together
Results - Low signal without noise à I was able to read with both receivers signals at noise level
- Single signal with heavy atmosferic noise (low band) à SDR is more readble, and DSP filters halp a lot
- Many signals and many adjacent stations (contest) à SDR is less subject to intermodulation; loweirng the pre-amp level you get improuvement
And then with SDR1000 I appreciated: - Quick Filter selection with a mouse click
- Equalizer menu permit you to easily adapt receiving to your ears
- Software is robust (no crasse) and interoperabily with other DX software is easy (with virtual Com port and Visual Audio Cables)
- DSP filters are flexible and permit you to easily adaprt to the signal received
- The newsgroup world is a great folder where you can share problem and solutions
